WHAT IS PEDIATRIC ENDOCRINOLOGY?
Pediatric Endocrinology covers the age from birth to 20 years. It involves the evaluation, diagnostic testing and treatment for conditions caused by the deficiency or excess of hormones.

Diabetes - Hormones signaling chemicals that the body uses for a variety of purposes. Included in the family of hormones is insulin that controls blood sugar. Deficiency of this hormone results in Type 1 Diabetes. In addition to Type 1 Diabetes, there are 12 or more types of sugar diabetes that do not arise from true insulin deficiency.

Pituitary Gland - The Pituitary Gland generates a variety of hormones that promote growth, good chemical cellular health and teenaged physical maturation. Other glandular systems in the body may control blood calcium, bone calcium and calcium absorption from the intestine or excretion by the kidneys. Stress response hormones from the adrenal glad are also included in this group.

Other conditions that fall under the endocrinology area include conditions like hypercholeserolemia, hyper-triglyceridemia, certain types of high blood pressure, and hypoglycemia. There are also some genetically identifiable conditions that have an endocrine consequence for which the child’s medical management will involve endocrine medications and education.

If you have questions or concerns regarding your child’s health, call us for an appointment at 321-723-0072.

We encourage referring physicians to contact our doctors about complicated or emergent patients. Arrangements to assess and treat children or adolescents with emergent or complex problems can be made on a same-day or next-day basis. When a patient's problem is less urgent, we encourage referring physicians to contact our office for a suggested list of diagnostic tests that can be performed prior to the endocrine consultation.  Call 321-723-0072 for more information.
